Cloud Computing

As a company grows, there is a requirement to purchase more physical servers. The cost may range from $400 (fewer than 25 users, low end processor, 1-2GB RAM, 500GB-1TB of RAID storage) to thousands or tens of thousands of dollars (multiple processors, 16GB RAM). There are certain disadvantages to this approach:

·      Cost
·      Need to purchase physical infrastructure
·      Pay for services even when not in use
·      Scalability- Make adjustments as the company up scales and downscales
·      High cost of maintenance

ENTER CLOUD COMPUTING!
In the late 1990’s, salesforce.com introduced a multi-tenant application which was designed to be accessible over the internet by a large number of users. Since then, cloud has grown and grown

·      It doesn't need any effort on your part to maintain or manage it
·      It's effectively infinite in size, so you don't need to worry about it running out of capacity
·      You can access cloud-based applications and services from anywhere – all you need is a device with an internet connection
